SMACT and the City

Sogeti's global trend lab, VINT, has released its fourth report "SMACT and the City – les nouvelles technologies dans des environnements urbains" ("SMACT and the City – new technologies in urban environments").

The authors posed the question of when the Internet of Things will change our towns and cities like it has our lives? In the latest VINT report, "SMACT and the City", the Sogeti global trend lab puts towns and cities at the centre of the Internet of Things. It highlights the relationship between humans and technology: think of a town as a platform, develop increasingly omnipresent applications. This research was conducted in partnership with IBM.

THINGS - the fourth industrial revolution

Through its VINT laboratory, Sogeti has published its third report in a four-part series on the Internet of Things. It shines a light on the "4th industrial revolution" which will unify Business IT with the Digital Business.

The 4th industrial revolution is the result of the convergence of Business IT (IT) and Digital Business (OT). This will facilitate, for instance, interactions with clients, communication between machines and equipment maintenance. This report, "La quatrième révolution industrielle, l’internet des objets et le Machine to Machine (M2M) réunit l’OT et l’IT" ("The fourth industrial revolution, the Internet of Things and Machine-to-Machine (M2M) bring together OT and IT") makes the following recommendations to accelerate convergence projects:

  • Standardise protocols to enable communication between different systems.
  • Prioritise IT/OT convergence in the digital transformation strategy.
  • Develop training to support the initiatives.

CYBERSECURITY: keeping the upper hand

Beyond the detailed study of new forms of cybercrime and the challenges they pose to businesses, this book describes specific innovative approaches to predict threats and respond effectively to attacks.

"It is essential for an approach to cybercrime to be based on value creation, rather than on risk control," declares Erik van Ommeren, Director of Sogeti's VINT lab and co-author of the book. "The fear of hackers and the loss of data has long been the driver for improving cybersecurity. But that is not enough. This book is intended to help general and IT managers take a fresh look at security, and view it as a key element in their strategy."
The authors cover the uneven balance of power between attackers and their victims, threats to industrial information systems and the implementation of security governance, highlighting the decisive role of "data scientists".
The book "Cybersécurité : conserver l’avantage dans la partie" (Cybersecurity: keeping the upper hand") was written by members of the SogetiLabs innovation monitoring team, in collaboration with the Sogeti and IBM global "Cybersecurity" service line. Authors include: Erik van Ommeren and Marinus Kuivenhoven for the SogetiLabs innovation monitoring team and Martin Borrett, Director of the IBM Institute for Advanced Security in Europe.

THINGS - The Age of Empathic Things

In this second report, VINT, Sogeti's trend laboratory, explores the future transition to a more "empathic" form of computerisation.

In recent years, information technology has become more personal and social. We are contributing to the rapid rise of technology embedded into and connected to devices of every kind, shape and size – around, on or inside the body – with increasingly intelligent and intuitive behaviour and highly personal and natural interfaces.
